5 Things to Consider When Planning Your Honeymoon
Your honeymoon is a once in a lifetime experience, so be sure to dedicate enough time planning this in order to make it special. Here we will talk about 5 ways to help you do just that.
Ask Your Guests For Money Towards This Instead of Traditional Gifts
It may sound simple (and it really is) having more funds for your honeymoon will help to enhance your experience and take some of the financial pressure off your shoulders. The more spending money you have the more memories you will be able to make, whether it be more excursions or being wined and dined like kings and queens at a premium award winning restaurant. This will also solve the problem of receiving unwanted gifts as well as making it easier for your guests. They won’t have to worry about what to get you and what your likes and dislikes are. Hiring a small postbox would be a nice way to store your cards and money, they are functional and decorative, most of these will come with a key so only you can access the contents.

Consider Which Day to Travel
Although traditionally you would leave for your honeymoon the day after the wedding I would give this some serious consideration and thought. Leaving at least a couple of days after will ensure you are not rushing around the day after the wedding. You can instead spend time with guests that may have travelled far to see you, you can also give yourselves a breather. You will have been so busy with the build up and planning as well as the big day itself, it will be nice to give yourself time to reminisce about the day and enjoy the excitement of the next step, the honeymoon! Instead of there just being one big blur between the last dance of the wedding to taking your first sip of the celebratory champers on the plane.

Location, location, location!
Consider where is best for you both, don’t feel like you have to go to a popular honeymoon destination just because everyone else does. Your honeymoon should be personal to you. For instance, the Maldives is a prime spot for honeymooners however this doesn’t mean you have to go there yourselves. First of all this may not be in budget but it may not also be right for you for other reasons, somewhere like this will be a relaxing retreat where you can kick back on the beach with a cocktail and take in the beautiful surroundings. It is known for the gorgeous views and crystal clear waters but not for its nightlife and excursions, think, is this for you? This will be to some couples taste, but if you are looking for a busier honeymoon packed with couples activities as well as bustling bars and restaurants this may not be for you. The other side to this is who says you only have to go to one location? This may be a great chance to tick some travelling off your bucket list, maybe of south east asia or your favourite american states.

Budget
This may seem obvious but the details can often slip your mind in the midst of all the planning you have to do for the wedding day itself nevermind the honeymoon as well. Make sure when you look into your budget you don’t only consider the holiday price itself, for example the flights, transfers and accommodation. Make sure you also do research on your location and what excursions are available and of interest to you with of course looking into the average cost of these, one way to help with the budgeting for this could be pre booking your excursions before you travel so you know they are all prepaid for. By prepaying for your excursions you will have something less to worry about when you are there, you can spend less time arranging the excursions and payment and more time relaxing on the sun loungers or taking a dip in the pool. Also be sure to consider the little things, will you want to buy any gifts or souvenirs when you are there? Will you want to splash out on a celebratory champagne breakfast at the airport? Other key things to consider are your purchases before you even travel, you may need a new suitcase, holiday clothes and the all important toiletries.

Let your Travel Agent Know its Your Honeymoon
If they aren’t already aware if possible let your airline and hotel know that it is your honeymoon, they may be able to arrange a special surprise for you to add to the magic of this once in a lifetime time trip. Even if they aren’t able to offer you anything complimentary they may be able to give you information or point you in the right direction for potential upgrade options that are specially designed for newly weds. Who knows, they may be able to arrange a bottle of bubbly and decor for your room on arrival or even a special candlelit dinner on the beach. If you don’t ask, you won’t get.
